This week DCS released the long anticipated Black Shark 3 attack helicopter. Way back around 2008 or so DCS really got their start as a study sim with the original Black Shark. And has progressed to what it is today with multiple maps and multiple modules, to also include not only jets and choppers but WWII aircraft and map as well.
I was more than glad to pick this one up as the Black Shark was the first DCS Module I ever learned, so it is sentimental to me. But with my continuing tuning my skills in the F/A 18-C Hornet and learning the Apache attack helicopter I really have no idea when I will have time to wrap my arms around this one - and it has been so many years since I flew the Shark I am sure I forget most everything I had learned.
Anyway DCS is such an awesome combat flight sim - but it is study level hence requires many, many hours of investment in learning.

This is what I so love to do in DCS. Campaigns. Mainly now for the Hornet with carrier Ops. This is the next campaign on the list for me to do and really looking forward to it. This is why I spend several hours on most days in DCS.

It does look awesome, but I'm thinking that the learning curve is too steep for me, lol. Probably too many buttons.
Might try Elite if I one day have enough time.
Right now, Ultrawings 2 and Star Wars Squadrons are my favorite sim-ish experiences. Not sure such experiences count here, lol :-)
Ps. Did buy Hotas just for Squadrons, if that gives me any street credit among simmers :-)

Lol HOTAS is a requirement for flight sims. Yep DCS learning curve is very, very steep. I am talking hundreds of hours - per plane or chopper. I consider it both a combat flight simulator and a deep study sim.

About to start a new Spitfire WWII Campaign - Beware! Beware! Just finished his The Big Show campaign and it was awesome. I will say DCS is just drop dead gorgeous in VR.

Does look great - what's the size of the sim in GB? I am currently sitting on 445 GB, however I do have all the maps and a majority of the planes. Have been building up my DCS collection for several years now.

That's half a TB, amazing - but my plan is to start first with Elite, when I one day find the time :-)
Saw one dude with more then 2500 hours in Elite, I guess that's ... something :-)

Oh my I would shudder to think how many hours I have put into DCS overall since I first got the original Black Shark in 2008.

Hmm I thought I had already posted the DCS 2023 and Beyond video for this year, apparently I did not. I always enjoy these videos they put out yearly, plus usually some good teaser at the end.

Yeah, I meant to link it too. I saw it when they released it. Like I said, I've always loved DCS trailers. I'll link a couple of my favorites.
I'll start with an older trailer. When I saw this come out the hair on my arms and neck stood up. I've got a long history with my old A8 butcher bird. Fell in love with it in 1995 Airwarrior due to the high roll rate. Allowing for some really nice high angle snap shots.
This one likewise was a highlight for me. While the trailer itself doesn't make a lot of historic sense...I was extremely excited to get the P47 and see the mosquito it's a great trailer with the churchill speech.
To more modern stuff, the F14 trailers were so damn well done and had me super hyped. I bought that module day 1 lol. While not the greatest of fighters...it's one of the most iconic planes of all time.
This one dropped my jaw.
And now...we have this teaser....Incoming Strike Eagle. I'm there for it lol.

Thanks for posting those vids, all were excellent. Funny I bought the Tomcat back when it became first available, but have never taken the time to learn it. And at this point not sure I will but it is sexy for sure. I especially liked that Top Gun take video with the Tomcat, that was awesome!

For the first time today I was able to utilize both the eye tracking feature of my Aero along with Dynamic Foveated Rendering. It was absolutely incredible. DCS along with Mbucchia ( the guy that did Open XR Toolkit) has this working for the Aero now by utilizing it's quad view and eye tracking capability. The last DCS update that gave us Multi Threading which already gave a nice gain in performance, also enabled the Aero quad view of DCS and now with the Aero I am blown away by how much more performance I am getting.
Ran a cold start mission with the Hornet in Persian Gulf off the Supercarrier, once I taxi'd to catapult my fps went to 90 fps and stayed there the entire flight - flying low over water, land, and some buildings. Then trapping back on the carrier. It was unbelievable. Never thought I would see the day I could run a complete mission in my high resolution Varjo Aero in DCS and maintain 90 fps. Between the multi-threading update and the DFR with eye tracking we now have performance absolutely skyrocketed. Hard to believe really. And I could not tell where central versus peripheral images converged at all, it looked the same great image clarity to me. Obviously because of the eye tracking tied into the DFR.
This DFR and eye tracking of course reliant on running in Open XR with a Varjo headset.
