More PSVR2 impressions:

Seems we'll get the SPUD (oled mura) - like with the CV1, which may be a noticeable difference for those not used to it.

Just installed the 4TB NVMe drive in the Playstation 5 - it's quite easy: After the installation, the PS5 checks the speed of the drive - Sony recommends at least 5500 MB/s - I got 6329 MB/s (text in Danish): - and it registers at 4.1 TB, usually the registered size is less than the advertised size (due to 1GB measured as 1024MB), but not here: So all seems fine. Was considering buying Returnal just to have something new to install, but it's $50 for a game I probably will play for an hour and then lose interest. With a weight of 7 grams and $550 price, this high-speed NVMe 4TB drive costs more than 24 karat gold, lol - 1 gram of 24 karat gold sells for $60 today. Probably should have bough gold instead With 4.4 TB free space, I guess I'm fully ready for the PSVR2 launch now

I was this close to grabbing a PS5 today for the upcoming PSVR2, BUT, with the rumour of a new revised model incoming i am going to wait until the summer to see what happens, as smaller Ps5 would be great for me, as i got rid of the old model because it was just too big to fit under my TV, and i was not changing a expensive TV cabinet just to fit a horrible designed console into. lol
So i am crossing my fingers for at least a smaller or more symetrical ps5 model revision incoming.

Hmmmm, it's been a week since I bought anything for the PS5... I feel the craving... Maybe time to pre-order the charging station?

I'm probably going to have to go with a wall mounted solution due to lack of space in my Office/VR room. I only have about a 11x12 office which has office furniture and such in to do VR in for now because it's one of the only places I can lock the kids out so they Can't see it.

I only have about a 11x12 office which has office furniture and such in to do VR in for now because it's one of the only places I can lock the kids out so they Can't see it. Mine is much similar - about 13 x 12, also have a long desk and a couch in there. Above couch level I have like 9 x 9 for VR, but closer to 9 x 6 for clear floor space. Does work fine though, the only game giving me issues has been Eye of The Temple, lol. So being tethered or not won't make much difference, I'm grounded either way :-) My sons tried VR when they were like 5 and 9 years old. The older one does not care much for VR - I think he got genuinely scared by FNAF (he's a great fan of FNAF and kept begging to try it in VR). My younger son is the biggest fan of VR, he's 11 now, never had nausea - and can play for hours or until I stop him. He spent like 15 hours in Cosmonious High (over many days, not a once ;-)). He also loves Beat Saber, Vacation Simulator, Star Wars Immortal and the more simple VR experiences. He's having the most awesome time in VR, he got a great swimming exercise in Hubris and say he now is better at swimming in the real world. In school he made me a drawing saying I was the most awesome dad because we have VR - not sure what his teacher thought of that, lol. He also loves being able be a powerful wizard in VR :-) Supervised and with some moderation, I think VR is a great experience for kids, I have never regretted giving them such experiences.

Btw, it's been a month - the wife still has not noticed the change - the PS5 hidden in plain sight, the RTX 3090 rig is to the left She does not enter the room often - and it's placed under a desk. I wonder if it may take a year, lol. Adding the hmd it may of course be easier to spot... Also just me having fun, not sure she cares at all :-) Adding the PS5 controller did not give much away too :-)

Btw, I'm starting to think I overpaid for my extremely fast NVMe 4TB PS5 drive. Testing NVMe against much slower SSDs in games, these were some results (note the slow Western Digital 12TB is a normal old-school hard-drive, this it's not NVMe or SSD): So if the much slower SSDs perform much the same as extremely fast NVMe drives in games, why pay so much for NVMe drives able to deliver at least 5500MB/s? I really doubt it matters - could have gotten a 3000MB/s NVMe 4TB for half the price. The Verge found no difference between the slowest NVMe they could find and Sony's default PS5 drive: www.theverge.com/2021/8/4/22608153/ps5-ssd-speed-test-storage-expansion-m2-playstation-5So be careful - unless you like me love to burn money, lol.

Yea, kinda why I was confused that you spent so much on it lol. Figured you had already looked into it. I haven't upgraded mine so never looked at it that close but I remember reading that a lot of SSD's don't even perform at their rated speeds on the PS5.

I haven't upgraded mine so never looked at it that close but I remember reading that a lot of SSD's don't even perform at their rated speeds on the PS5. The NVMe I bought does perform better than the 5500MB/s recommended by Sony - but the question is if it matters - and I don't think it does, at least not much (or probably only for feinschmeckers, lol). But devs behind Ratchet and Clank say they measured a difference between slow and fast NVMe drives, where slower drives could create some micro-stuttering during scenes with simultaneous loading. And I guess Sony says 5500MB/s for a reason, or just to be sure... I don't gamble and like to burn some money, lol. I can try to find the quote from Ratchet and Clank devs later, I think it was on Twitter...

Found it, man - that was not easy, lol - from Insomniac Games:
"We tried some below-spec Gen4 M.2 drives as well and saw up to 15% slower loading in the most SSD-stressing areas of the game. Not too shabby, but keep a close eye on technical specs if you’re making an SSD purchase, as our game does rely on high-quality storage. 🙏"
- and you may know me, I read the 15% part and dropped the $200 extra without blinking :-)
I think it's because the PS5 drive is so fast that devs in some games can use it much like getting extra ram - or stream assets directly from the drive while you're playing the game.

I just asked the new HAL9000 (ChatGPT, OpenAI) if I can use a slow NVMe drive in my PS5, lol - the answer:
"It is possible to use a slower NVMe drive for the PS5, however, it may not fully take advantage of the PS5's custom SSD capabilities. The PS5's SSD has a read speed of 5.5 GB/s, which is much faster than traditional hard drives. To fully utilize the PS5's SSD, an NVMe drive with a similar read speed is required.
A slower NVMe drive may still work with the PS5, but it may result in longer loading times for games and levels, which can impact the overall gaming experience. Additionally, the slower NVMe drive may not be able to handle the large game files and may fill up quickly.
It's worth noting that the NVMe drive's write speed is also important, but it's not as crucial as the read speed because the PS5's SSD is primarily used for reading data.
Overall, it's recommended to use a fast NVMe drive with a read speed of at least 5500MB/s for the PS5 to get the best performance from the console. However, you can still use a slower NVME drive but you should expect some performance hit."
