In most cases Open XR will yield better performance especially compared to Steam VR. Depending on the CPU and GPU running it would determine by how much. Heck there are a couple of combat flight sims folks are hacking Open XR into through Open Composite to get that slightly better performance and more graphics adjustments. For me I like the simplicity of Steam VR for my combat flight sims as I don't much care for getting too deep in the woods making adjustments and testing. In MSFS 2020 which has native Open XR support though it performs surprisingly well. At least last time I checked have not flown it in a while. As much as I do not have time for it right now I hope the devs can fix whatever issue Hubris has running in the Aero, it looks like one I might enjoy. Btw, have you tried Kayak VR, may look truly astonishing in the Aero! Lol no, purchased it after your review quite some time ago but to date have not even installed it. Just not enough time currently.

Just not enough time currently. I'd make Kayak VR a priority, it's amazing, but you may need some minutes to get the settings right for the graphics. My res is very close to the point where I lose 90 fps and get 45 ;-)

That Hubris trailer is really a spoiler, they show almost everything - usually I don't see trailers because of this. But it means I can post everything, because it's already in the trailer! I think she's a cutie, better than Liv? - and some random dead guy :-) Definitely better the Lone Echo, but so far worse then Lone Echo 2 and Alyx. Unless the ending is very bad, reviewers at RoadToVR and UploadVR need some thorough spanking. Feels like they are on a mission trying to destroy PCVR by giving gems bad reviews. The quality in Hubris has not been seen in any VR game since Lone Echo 2. Sure combat could be better - but at least the combat is better than shooting ticks in Lone Echo 2. RoadToVR tested Hubris with Quest 2 and a GTX 1080 - like testing a new Formula One race track using a bicycle. I can just barely get 90 fps and decent image quality with the RTX 3090. Actually a 3090 really is the bare minimum for Hubris. Above images were taken using Rift CV1 ss 2.0.

One of the devs just explained about the shimmering textures with the Index: "The issue there is that the AO is off on non Oculus open XR headsets right now we are working on a fix for that hopefully gets pushed this evening! " AO = Ambient occlusion - that does explain why I like the CV1, but there'll still be the TAA blur with the Index. Still indicates to me that Hubris originally was designed for Rift CV1, where TAA looks good.

May just have to play around with TAA settings in the Unreal engine to get something workable for Index. I've been meaning to play around with Unreal Engine Unlocker to see if the in game console will let you change the TAA settings. Just have to be careful using it, it would likely get you banned in online games.

I bought it to support the dev and to try to play around with it.

Well I will tell you if the game was optimized and designed primarily for the CV1 I will just have to take a pass. Thanks that helped me make up my mind. I really don't have time for it now anyways but thought I might have a look. I want a game that looks great in my Aero, not my 6 year old original headset stashed away in a sealed up box I haven't used in close to 4 years. I think I will begin that play through of Medal of Honor Above and Beyond though with my Aero in next day or two. Need a little short breather from DCS.

Ok so have now reinstalled Medal of Honor Above and Beyond. Going to try it at the default High setting in Varjo Base of app 3800x3200 per eye and see how it looks and performs. Soon as my Index controllers get a full charge going to start another run of it. Also just got FPS VR installed again, will have to check it out with MOH.

Oh heck yeah, running high res app 3800x3200 per eye and full on graphics I am maintaining 85-90fps in MOH. Looking very sweet.

Btw, the fighting in Hubris is far from easy in the last half of the game - it's a war zone: Here a drop ship delivers soldiers and drones using a tractor beam: Drop ship is leaving: This soldier/alien is quite tough - met one close-up and then I died, lol: Btw, you change weapons much like in Alyx: I love being outside - I really feel like an outdoor person now! Ultramersion textures: You're missing out on the best game since Lone Echo 2 and Alyx :-)

Holy crap the Index controllers are not so good with Medal of Honor Above and Beyond. Am at the Chatsworth Girl mission and trying to shoot the inbound enemy planes is proving to be practically impossible - can't get my controllers to operate the gun station worth a crap. I guess to be expected from a game designed to run on Oculus crap.

Yes, Medal of Honor A&B is another Rift CV1 game, just like Hubris - but was designed for external tracking, bigger issues are with inside-out for the sniper gun, so using base stations and Index controllers should be fine... Reviving the game was no problem with the Index, at least I don't recall any issues...

They will like grab things when I have not even closed my hand good around them. And this shooting from the turrets to defend the Chatsworth Girl - not even sure I will be able to complete this part now. And I lowered it to easy setting LOL. Index controllers with MOH for lack of a better word just feels very clunky to me. Not precise at all. Not sure I will make it through a full play through with them. Which would be a shame as the game looks really nice in the Aero.

Not touching the grab button, when you don't want to, can be tricky, especially when used to constantly grabbing other controllers - I do get that too with some games - can require much training. I'm also using CV1 and Touch with Medal of Honor, but mostly because many textures look much more low-res with no SDE to fool your brain, especially up-close.
