Testing Asgard's Wrath - Rift CV1 ss 2.5 vs. Index res 400%. In short - this is Rift CV1 ss 2.5 (27 mill pixels) screenshot (original, but seems to be reduced in size here to fit the page, otherwise click on the attachement to see full res): This is Index res 400% screenshot: Maybe some think both look good. But let's focus - here are images showing the full res : Rift CV1 ss 2.5 - full res: Index res 400% - full res: Note than I'm closer to these pillars using Index than CV1, and closer should mean sharper - thus Index has higher res and closer distance - still CV1 looks much sharper! Rift CV1 ss 2.5 - full res: Index res 400% - full res: The Index image is bigger, because res 400% results in a larger image (=1820x1820 screenshot) than CV1 ss 2.5 (=1536x1536 screenshot). Looks like the CV1 is a lot sharper here (and felt the same in game, thus also through-the-lenses) - could be caused by some restrictions with Revive? I always thought that LCD was the problem - but these are raw screenshots - not through the lenses! So the blur comes from how Steam treats TAA? Or Revive? And has nothing to do with LCD - unless LCD triggers some strange settings making TAA look blurry? I would expect screenshots to be similar - but the CV1, even using lower res, is much sharper than Index using a massive res 400%! This makes little sense - unless the blur is created by other mechanisms than just choice of oled/LCD... Did Revive dev undersample Asgard's Wrath to gain performance? Really looks like I have to reach res 500 - 600% with the Index the get same image quality as Rift CV1 ss 2.5! Do let me know what you're thinking! :-) Attachments:

Been saying for years that LCD isn't the issue with blur. It becomes apparent instantly when you use an OLED on Steam and it has the same blurring.
Im not sure why some games have worse TAA blur through revive. I’ve long suspected that oculus did something to disable TAA on the CV1 because other oled hmds suffer from it.

That would make some sense - it's really a giant mystery with the TAA blur - maybe I should have investigated it before, but just never took the time to do so. Would make sense if Oculus did something special to reduce the blur. It really makes no sense that Index res 400% is more blurry than old CV1 ss 2.5. If someone has a Rift-S or Quest 2, could be interesting if they do - or do not - get blurry image quality in Asgard's Wrath using EPIC settings. If it has something to do with Steam, then Oculus lcd hmds should not look blurry in TAA games - or at least look less blurry...

But strange - Quest 2 owners are also complaining about the blur in Asgard's Wrath:
"Yeah I had the same question. I'm using a Quest 2, wired link on a high end PC and it's quite blurry"
This was a comment made a few weeks ago - and then there're the old threads about the Asgard's Wrath blur:
https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/dhdz8v/asgards_wrath_taa_blurr/
Still seems CV1 goes free, while Rift-S, Quest 2 and Index show severe TAA blur - for some reason...
Now, if I took a screenshot with the Quest 2 and it was blurry - but not taking a screenshot (same res) with CV1 - that would be a real mystery, lol.
Not much to do about it I guess, fact is I greatly prefer the sharpness of the CV1 ss 2.5 in Asgard's Wrath even compared to Index res 400%. And the performance of Rift CV1 ss 2.5 is also significantly better than Index res 400% - even if Index 400% is playable in nice semi-90-fps due to motion smoothing working wonders. But I'm mostly getting real 90 fps with the CV1 ss 2.5.
